After my first full day in nottm I actually quite like it. Haven't had too many interactions with the locals though, so that could skew my opinion. But it has pretty old and modern architecture, lots of sculptures around the shopping areas, the castle rock is nice and the hills give good views. But one thing that aggravated me today was the fact that the city doesn't cater to tourism in what I'm assuming is any time of the year other than summer. I mean in derby, the art gallery section of the museum was closed to make way for a new exhibit and for painting cleanings, and the 4th fl stairway of the pickford house was getting a new carpet, and in a few other locations I've visited there always seems to be at least one attraction that is being renovated to some kind. But my god, today was almost impossible to visit anywhere! So I understand my lonely planet is over a year old now so the info will be outdated, but like the castle wasn't open today, when in my book it said it was, the museum of nottingham life had reduced their opening days to fri-sun, and the caves were temporarily closed!! So after following the robin hood trail, I eventually did find my way to the halls of justice museum, which was the old gaol, so that was really interesting. It talked about the treatment of prisoners, executions, the conditions of the gaol, and what happened to people when they were transported to Aussieland. They had a few items on display that were swallowed by prisoners, everything from metal, to chess pieces! Then they had a little exhibit about robin hood. After the museum I walked around the city some more, got dinner then made my way back to the hostel. I am not very impressed with these pub inns. Not only is it nosey downstairs, but there is no kitchen in the accom! So tomorrow it will be more nutella sandwiches for dinner. When I got back I went to take a shower and when I got into the bathroom and undressed ( the bottom half), I realized I forgot my flip flops. And looking at the state of the tub, I definitely wasn't taking my chances going in barefoot, so I decided to run back to my room which was close to the bathroom and grab them. My travel towel is real tiny and doesn't cover me all the way around, but with this place being practically empty I didnt think I had anything to worry about with being seen, so I covered myself as best I could, then ran into the room and then back into the bathroom. When I got out of the bathroom, I noticed a CCTV camera DIRECTLY OPPOSITE my bedroom door!! I really hope andre was busy watching youtube again and didn't have a free peep show!! So tomorrow is my last night in notm, I will visit the castle for real, and check out more of the city before heading for sherwood forest on wed!
